Meet the Long-Anticipated and All-New Ram 2500

Following closely in the footsteps of its little brother, the 1500 (which received its own major update just a few months ago), the Ram 2500 steps out with a full redesign, new power options, new features, and an entirely new face and body for the 2019 model-year.

Like in past years, the Ram 2500 will be available in three body-style configurations: two-door Regular Cab, four-door Crew Cab, and extra-large four-door Mega Cab. Trim levels include capable and work-ready options like the Ram 2500 Tradesman, Big Horn, and Power Wagon, and luxurious premium choices like the Ram 2500 Laramie, Laramie Longhorn, and Limited. There's so much to look forward to, it's hard to know where to look first.

What's New for 2019?

Nearly everything has changed about the Ram 2500 for the new 2019 MY, from the skin to the screens, from inside to out. While the bold, high-riding design does roll over into the new generation, its fresher and sharper than we've ever seen. Even with the redesign, though, the new Ram 2500 is actually a little bit lighter than last year's model.

Some feature additions for the new 2019 model include the option of 100% leather seating--a rarity even in the luxury segment, much less the pickup truck segment. The Class-Exclusive RamBox® Cargo Management System adds a 115-volt power outlet inside so that you can charge your gear or tools and still keep your valuable equipment safe and secure. Ram claims the use of special acoustic glass and active noise-cancellation systems to deliver a more relaxing cabin experience.

Performance and Engine Options

Rear-wheel drive comes standard on most Ram 2500 truck configurations, but four-wheel drive is an option across the lineup. Select models offer 4WD as standard equipment. Standard power for the Ram 2500 comes from a gas 6.4-liter HEMI V8 engine mated to an eight-speed TorqueFlite automatic transmission, good for best-in-class 410 horsepower and 429 pound-feet of torque.

A 6.7-liter turbo diesel six-cylinder engine is available, and pairs to a six-speed automatic transmission regardless of output. The diesel option makes 370 horsepower and 850 pound-feet of torque--this powertrain delivers best-in-class diesel towing power.

Capabilities: Towing and Payload

A heavy-duty truck needs some heavy-duty numbers, and the Ram 2500 delivers. When properly equipped, the automaker says that its truck boasts a best-in-class diesel tow rating of up to 19,780 pounds. Max payload ratings come in at up to 4,050 pounds for select configurations when properly equipped.

The Ram Power Wagon, the most capable off-road full-size pickup truck, is back for the new generation, offering an exclusive suspension, locking differentials in the front and rear, a factory lift kit, and a 12,000-pound winch.

Technology Features

This may be the smartest Ram 2500 ever. New technology features include available Full-LED Headlamps, an updated Uconnect infotainment system with an available 12.0-inch touchscreen--by far the largest screen offered on a heavy-duty truck--and an available 750-watt, 17-speaker Harman/Kardon premium sound system.

Classic features like Bluetooth audio connectivity, smartphone integration through Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and top-of-the-line navigation will also be offered on the new Ram 2500.

Safety and Driver Assistance

To continue with the massive changes made to this massive truck, we'll also see a long list of passive and active safety and security features, both familiar and new. Class-Exclusive Adaptive Forward Lighting is perfect for truck drivers who may often be driving off the beaten path. Available Forward Collision Warning with Active Braking is an available state-of-the-art system that works even when you're towing a trailer.

Other safety features in the new Ram 2500 include an available Blind Spot Warning System and a new 360° Surround View Camera.
